New information section about the upcoming elections in Iceland

It´s important that information about the upcoming elections in Iceland is easily accessible to people of foreign origin. Now there is a special section here on the MCC website, dedicated to the parliament elections that will be held on September 25., 2021.

In this elections section people can find information about who can vote, who they can vote for, where they vote etc.

There will be a lot of information in the air related to various political parties and campaigning will be a major feature in society and in the media in the coming weeks. We here at the MCC hope this elections section will clarify things and be helpful. Remember that the whole site can be translated to many languages using the translation feature in the top right corner.

Recently, Nichole Leigh Mosty, the head of MCC and Tatjana Latinovic, wrote an article highlighting the importance of making information about elections available to people of foreign origin.

„About 13.5% of the country’s population are of foreign origin and certainly many of them have not acquired the right to vote, although some have lived in this country for a long time. […] Participation in politics and elections is one of the cornerstones of democracy and any society.“

The article was published in Icelandic on visir.is and can be found here.
