Earth tremors are reported under the summit of the Eyjafjallajökull glacier, in the south of Iceland. The Department of Civil Protection and Emergency Management, in consultation with geophysicists from the Icelandic Meteorological Office, have already evacuated the areas to the south of the glacier as a precautionary measure.

General elections to Parliament [Alþingi] are on 25 April 2009. Only Icelandic citizens may vote or run for election. They must be 18 years of age and be legally residing in Iceland. Those who have moved away from Iceland retain the right to vote for eight years and even longer if they apply for an extension.
