The Multicultural Centre would like to draw attention to the following:

It is important to check if the person applying for a first residence and work permit in Iceland has permission to stay in the country while the application is being processed with The Directorate of Immigration, or if the applicant has to wait for approval regarding the permit before arriving.

More information on permission to stay while application is being processed can be found here:

English:               http://utl.is/index.php/en/permission-to-stay-while-application-is-being-processed-by-the-icelandic-directorate-of-immigration-and-during-renewal-of-residence-permit

It is also very important to familiarize yourself with the rights attached to a temporary or permanent residence permit in Iceland, what consequences it can have if a renewal of permit is applied for too late and what effects it will have if the person has stayed too long abroad. The consequences in these cases include a revocation of residence permit and cancellation of the right to stay and/or work in Iceland.
