Minimum support criteria will be raised on 1st January 2017

One of the basic requirements for the granting of a residence permit in Iceland or Icelandic citizenship is that the applicant can show his/her independent capability of support. The Directorate of Immigration uses the minimum support criteria of the Reykjavik Department of Welfare. As of January 1st 2017 the Directorate will apply the minimum criteria decided by the Department of Welfare on December 18th 2015. The minimum criteria of support for an individual, 18 years or older, will then be 180.550 ISK per month and 270.825 ISK for a couple per month. The amount refers to pre-taxincome.
