Dental and orthodontic treatment
-
The health insurance pays for dental services, other than orthodontic treatment, in accordance with a rates schedule issued by the Minister.
-
The health insurance covers 75% of the cost of dental treatment provided to children and adolescents eighteen years of age or younger, excluding gold fillings, crowns and bridgework. It covers 50% of the cost of dental treatment provided to adolescents 18 years of age, excluding gold fillings, crowns and bridgework. Children in the public school system are entitled to see the school dentist. However, parents may choose another dentist if they so desire.
-
Those who decide not to use the school dentist are advised to notify the SSI and submit the name and address of the family dentist. Also, the health insurance covers 75% of health cost for old age and invalidity pensioners receiving a full income supplement and 50% for old age and invalidity pensioners receiving a reduced income supplement. This coverage does not include the cost of gold fillings, crowns and bridgework. Patients are required to pay the full cost of dental services and apply for reimbursement afterwards. In order to do this, receipts from the dentist should be presented to the SSI and the cost covered by the health insurance (as stated above) will be paid immediately.
-
The insurance takes no part in payments of orthodontic care except in cases of congenital defects, accidents or illnesses.
