A foreign citizen from a country outside the EEA coming to Iceland to work

Before you arrive in Iceland the following should have been arranged:
An application submitted for an Icelandic social security number
Applications submitted and processed for work- and residence permits, to the Útlendingastofnun
A signed contract of employment
Medical insurance issued by an insurance company authorized to provide services in Iceland
You must have a visa to work in Iceland (if applicable), Icelandic social security number, work- and residence permits, a contract of employment, medical insurance and to have secured housing before you’re allowed to enter Iceland.
Have you? (after you arrive in Iceland)
Registered your legal domicile in Iceland?
Undergone a medical examination and submitted a health certificate to the Útlendingastofnun?
Had your photograph taken at the Útlendingastofnun or at a district commissioner’s office?
Received confirmation that you’ve been registered to the National Registry (Þjóðskrá) (not a temporary registration)?
Checked with your employer whether an application has been submitted on your behalf for an Icelandic tax card? (skattkort)
Applied for services and acquainted yourself with your rights to services in the municipality you reside in?(Housing, housing benefits, schools, transportation, leisure, healthcare, social services and so on.)
Applied for and acquainted yourself with the services provided by companies, institutions or other organisations in the municipality that you reside in? (Telephone, heating and electricity, banks and so on.)
Documentation and certificates that are not available in Icelandic, English, or one of the Scandinavian languages must be translated by an accredited translator into one of the above languages.
